Away, a Hilary Swank area drama that premiered on Netflix in early September, has gradually gained traction and fans. The story of the initial crewed mission to Mars appears hauntingly contemporary — particularly in light of a current pandemic that has resulted in feelings of isolation and loneliness even amongst families — and Swank's Emma, the commander of the three-month mission to Mars, is at the coronary heart of Away. In the show, Emma is forced to leave behind her adolescent daughter and her husband, who is dealing with medical issues.
With season one ending just as a crew of familiar characters safely settles on Mars, fans are anxiously anticipating details about Away season and what the future may hold for Emma and her family. After all, Away distinguishes itself from other science fiction television shows by functioning as a family drama: As a result, it serves up both high-octane moments (chemical leaks that turn into fireballs! ), as well as the type of delicious melodrama that keeps viewers tuning in week after week to This Is Us. Emma's husband Matt (Josh Charles) has a stroke in the first episode, and her 2d-in-command Ram (Ray Panthaki) admits to having feelings for her by the end of the season. It's a lot, especially since the group is only a few months into a three-year trek. Even though Netflix has yet to formally greenlight the group's next challenge, a second season feels imminent with so much story still to explore. For the time being, however, here's what we know about a capable Away season.
When Will the Next Season of Away Be Available on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet renewed Away Season 2, but if it does, it may not be available until the end of 2021 or later. This is partly due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, which is making it difficult for any manufacturer to resume normal operations. The sheer amount of computer graphics that go into making a sensible area experience, on the other hand, is a manufacturing thing that would push offseason.
These variables, when combined, suggest that Away isn't necessarily a show that can be recorded quickly without sacrificing its unique experience. Still, given that government producer Andrew Hinderaker has planned out a multi-season arc for the drama, the wait might be well worth it. He said in an interview with The Capital Times, “The goal became to consistently begin and end the first season in the same manner that we did. But one of the reasons the show is called Away is that we've always been curious about their journey and what happens once they arrive at their destination.” Hinderaker appears to be preparing for Away to stay around for quite some time, given that the gang has just landed on Mars.
Who Is Acting in the Away Season 2?
Despite a slew of setbacks on their way to Mars — including, but no longer limited to, area blindness, a nasty attack of mono, and a slew of water-related problems — all five astronauts survived to tell the tale. As a result, if the season arrives, Emma, Ram, Misha (Mark Ivanir), Dr. Kwesi (Ato Essandoh), and Dr. Lu (Vivian Wu) will have to return because there may no longer be a definite location for them to vanish to in the area. Visitors can also expect to see more of Matt and his ongoing romance with his carer Melissa (Monique Gabriela Curnen), as well as the return of Matt and Emma's daughter Lex (Talitha Bateman) and her adolescent escapades.

It's a little early to speculate about additional characters, but showrunner Jessica Goldberg told Inverse that she's interested in looking into the privatized area race in a future season, which may lead to the introduction of a few new faces. The initial season portrays a picture of international cooperation that the arena hasn't seen in years, and she is acutely aware that the private zone is where the most exhilarating advancements in area journey are being achieved. “I do believe it is a story of great importance,” Goldberg added. “Right now, we can't get far without that private zone cash, and I think it'd be fantastic to bring that storyline in.” Adding a non-public area zone to the mix will almost probably result in the introduction of new characters, perhaps even one who resembles SpaceX's Elon Musk.
What Will Appear in the Away Season 2?
It's safe to say that the most essential goal for the astronauts this season is to establish a base on Mars. These five astronauts will likely spend more than a year on Earth together before embarking on their long journey home, which is plenty of time for all kinds of interpersonal issues to arise. The show had already instilled fear in Emma and Ram at the end of season one when he expressed his feelings for the commander.
Panthaki is certain that this storyline is just getting started. He explained in an interview with NME, “He's been given this shield, and it takes a significant amount of energy to break it down. If you destroy it, he will provide the entire package to that person. So it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out.” Meanwhile, back at home, Emma's husband Matt is dealing with Melissa's abrupt admission of feelings to him. These factors together should put even more strain on the couple's long-distance relationship.
Aside from the romantic drama, Goldberg is also curious about the discoveries the crew will make on Mars and how those discoveries would affect them. She told Inverse that she's mostly interested in the idea of a group situating itself on Mars — but don't expect them to be real walking, talking aliens. “When I say existence, I'm thinking of something like a microorganism,” she explained. “I'm not suggesting an alien; the display will almost certainly not go in that way.” There are plenty of memories remaining for Away to educate this season, from therapeutic advances to matrimonial drama. Now, all we need is for Netflix to give the show a respectable renewal so that the writers can start to work on a new area that fails to irritate us.
There is no official confirmation from Netflix about season 2. It may not happen any time in the near future A show like Away needs a lot of time to shoot to retain the excitement and make it a hit. So it may take place sometime in the far future with the gang landing on Mars and exploring it.
