The show features millionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who was stranded on the mystical island of Lian Yu for five years before returning to Starling City.

Oliver returns to Starling City in season one, where he is reunited with his family and friends, including Tommy Merlyn and Laurel Lance. By night, he becomes “The Hood,” a vigilante who hunts down individuals mentioned in his father’s notebook with the help of John Diggle and Felicity Smoak. The city is threatened by “The Undertaking,” a plot directed by Malcolm Merlyn. The season also includes flashbacks to Oliver’s first year on the island, his fight to stay alive, and new allies and opponents like Slade Wilson.

Following the death of Tommy Merlyn in season two, Oliver pledges not to kill again. Operating under the new moniker “The Arrow”[3][4], this is put to the test as Slade attacks the city. He also has trouble juggling his vigilante work and duties as C.E.O. of Queen Consolidated. Sara Lance, now known as “The Canary,” makes her return this season, as does the government organization A.R.G.U.S. and its boss Amanda Waller. Oliver faces a new threat to Lian Yu in the flashbacks, exposing the origins of his feud with Slade.

Following Sara’s murder and the loss of his family’s business to Ray Palmer in season three, Oliver refuses to think he can live an everyday life while still becoming The Arrow. To defend his sister Thea, he becomes entangled in a confrontation with Ra’s al Ghul. Felicity is promoted to Vice President of Palmer Technologies, and Laurel vows to follow Sara’s lead and take up the mantle of Black Canary. In the season’s flashbacks, Oliver manages to elude Lian Yu, only to be compelled to work with Waller in Hong Kong to prevent the spread of a deadly infection.

In season four, Oliver and Felicity dwell in Ivy Town but return to Star City to battle the terrorist organization H.I.V.E., led by Damien Darhk. While vying for mayor, Oliver assumes the alias “Green Arrow”[5]. His relationship with Felicity ends when he discovers the existence of his son William and decides to keep the fact hidden. Darhk murders Laurel, and Oliver learns of his plot to explode nuclear weapons. Oliver is returned to Lian Yu by Waller in the season’s flashbacks, where he attempts to infiltrate the criminal gang Shadowspire.

Oliver is adjusting to his breakup with Felicity while balancing his new responsibilities as mayor with the threat posed by serial killer Prometheus. In season five, Oliver and Felicity enlist the help of a new group of vigilantes, including former cop Dinah Drake as the new Black Canary. The season also features an adversarial version of Laurel Lance, known as Black Siren, a doppelganger from Earth-2 who first appeared in The Flash’s second season. Oliver travels to Russia in the season’s flashbacks, where he joins the Bratva and is trained by Talia al Ghul before returning to Lian Yu.

Following the murder of William’s mother, Oliver strives to balance his vigilantism with his position as mayor and as a father to William in season six. In the season’s Arrowverse crossover, he rekindles his romance with Felicity, and the two marry. Cayden James, a terrorist hacker, and his criminal gang have emerged as a new menace. When Ricardo Diaz murders James and Team Arrow is split, Oliver is forced to recruit the help of the F.B.I., negotiating a deal that results in his detention in federal prison and his public debut as Green Arrow.

Felicity looks for new allies in season seven to apprehend Diaz and save Oliver from prison. The S.C.P.D. Deputizes Oliver and his team after defeating Diaz and being released from jail. Emiko Queen, his half-sister, is revealed to be the new Green Arrow, but she is also the leader of the terrorist group the Ninth Circle. The season includes flashbacks to twenty years in the future, when William, now an adult, receives a mystery letter. He discovers his sister, Oliver, and Felicity’s daughter Mia and works with his former comrades to safeguard the city from a cyber attack.
