Trump's diplomats vs. Blinken
Following a squabble between Trump and former Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, Trump replaced Tillerson with far-poorer Mike Pompeo, who had been appointed by Trump as secretary of state.
Blinken received a substantial payout when he left the company. His financial disclosure report, which lists income from 2019 and 2020, included details on guaranteed payments and distributions from WestExec totaling $1.2 million in value.
Aside from that, Blinken stated that the firm has at least $1.5 million in equity investments tied to it. In March, he repurchased his share of the company from his former partners. WestExec wasn't the only thing that kept Blinken on his toes over the course of the last four years.
Earlier this year, he began working as an advisor for a Silicon Valley investment firm called Social Capital, which is led by a self-promotional, controversial financier named Chamath Palihapitiya, who is estimated to be worth more than $1.3 billion.
As a result of his work, Blinken gained an interest in a Social Capital partnership worth more than $250,000, which provided him with exposure to companies such as Box, Slack, SurveyMonkey, and Virgin Galactic, among others.
While in high school, Blinken traveled to Paris, where he worked as an advisor for an infrastructure investment fund. During his time there, he also studied abroad. From January 2019 to August 2020, he received $134,000 in compensation from that organization.
He also spent time with Joe Biden at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy & Global Engagement, which is located in Philadelphia. Blinken was employed at the company from May 2017 to June 2019. In the first six months of 2019, he received $80,000 in compensation for his services. Eventually, he volunteered on Biden's campaign trail as well, earning another $144,000 in the process.

Inside the Fortune of Antony Blinken
As a result of their years working for the government, Blinken and his wife, Evan Ryan, have a couple of nice pensions. Their real wealth, however, comes from their time spent in the private sector, where he founded his own advisory firm and she worked for Axios Media, where they both made millions.
There were also opportunities for the media to cover the event. Blinken began working as a global affairs analyst for CNN in February of this year. Exactly how much money he made from the gig in 2017 and 2018 is unknown at this time, but he earned $22,000 for approximately six months of work in 2019.
The media also provided some income for his wife, Evan Ryan, who is also a longtime government official who joined the Biden Administration this year as a deputy assistant to the president. The following year, Ryan began working at Axios Media, where she rose to the position of executive vice president.
Her financial disclosure details a $125,000 salary, $369,000 in income from the exercise of Axios options, and a stake in the media company worth more than $500,000 as well as other assets. Ryan received an additional $96,000 from Biden's transition team.
All of this money enabled the couple to live a comfortable life. In 2018, they purchased a home in the Washington, D.C. suburbs for $4.3 million, financing the purchase with a $1.1 million loan.
Aside from that, they amassed stock in a handful of companies, including Google parent Alphabet (in which they had a $195,000 stake), and Berkshire Hathaway (in which they had a $139,000 stake), Apple ($120,000), and Facebook ($80,000).
Blinken and Ryan may see their earning power diminish once they return to the government. However, they will have the opportunity to build on one of the most generous benefits available in Washington: a federal pension that will pay them in old age.
In the current market, Blinken's is worth approximately $500,000, and Ryan's is worth more than $150,000, according to estimates. Because their eventual payouts are based in part on the number of years they have spent in the administration, those pensions should only become more valuable the longer they remain in the system.
