Angelina Jolie‘s attorneys were so desperate to serve Brad Pitt with a subpoena in the acrimonious tangle of lawsuits over the former couple's French winery that they stationed process servers at the most glitzy Hollywood gatherings in an attempt to catch him off guard.
They allegedly dispatched a man to confront the “Fight Club” actor with the documents at the 2022 SAG Awards in February, and insiders believe they likely would have attempted again at the Oscars, but Brad Pitt‘s attorneys called off the hunt before Hollywood's most prestigious night.
It is a legal requirement for someone to respond to a court summons, according to sources, who hoped Pitt would attend the SAG Awards as a previous winner (for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2020), despite not being nominated this year. Unfortunately, he did not.
It seems to be a popular strategy at the moment. Olivia Wilde was served papers regarding her custody fight with Jason Sudeikis in April when she was making a speech at a CinemaCon event.
Jolie's attorneys attempted to subpoena Pitt to produce documents and correspondence pertaining to the Chateau Miraval winery.
Unfortunately for Jolie, process servers were waiting at the awards presentation, but Pitt did not appear.
The former couple, who separated in September 2016, are embroiled in a complicated dispute over the ownership of the business when Jolie, 47, sold her interests to a subsidiary of the giant alcoholic beverage company Stoli.
Pitt, 58, has asserted that Jolie was not permitted to sell her shares without affording him the right of refusal, and they are now at odds about whether she is permitted to demand the requested documentation.
As first reported by Page Six on Friday, a judge ordered Pitt and his business partners to turn over the documents, although his team may still appeal.
The former couple, who had six children, tied the knot in August 2014 at the chateau after a decade of dating. Reps did not respond to us.
