America’s Got Talent: In the first live show of Season 19, Sofía Vergara assists one act in making series history
Hakuna Matata Acrobatics wowed the judges and audience during the Aug. 13 episode with their impressive balancing act, leading them to win the first-ever Live Show Golden Buzzer
America’s Got Talent’s 19th season live performances have finally begun, and Sofía Vergara is kicking things off big!
In the August 13 episode of the popular NBC series, Sofía made history for one act by hitting her Live Show Golden Buzzer for the first time.
After a stunning performance in which they executed a number of intricate acrobatic feats while carefully balancing on each other’s bodies and rolling platforms, Hakuna Matata Acrobatics were the fortunate competitors who took home the special distinction.
“This was perfection!” Sofía, 52, declared after pressing her Golden Buzzer. “Everything, all of it!”
The Tanzanian gang had spoken before the moment of excitement about how the tournament will not only impact their lives but also the lives of their families. They also talked about how hard they work on their routine during practice and how they “fall a lot” until they get it right.
After that, they performed an exciting routine that had everyone on the edge of their seats on stage.
When they were done, Simon Cowell clapped and referred to them as “one of the most difficult, dangerous acts we’ve seen on a live show.”
“It felt to me like you’ve arrived,” he declared. “I have so much respect for all of you for what you’ve done… I have a feeling this is gonna be a great, great night for you.”
AGT posted the video of Act with the caption: @hakuna_matata_acrobatsofficial are one step closer to their dreams thanks to the first Lives Golden Buzzer from @sofiavergara! watch #AGT tuesdays on @nbc and streaming on @peacock.
“I don’t think people realize how amazing that is… you went above and beyond!” said Howie Mandel, who agreed.
In addition, Heidi Klum said that she “had my attention from the beginning to the very end.”
“It’s death-defying, what you do. On top of what you’re doing, you’re doing it on roller-boards, you guys are incredible!” she added.
Finally, Sofía spoke and raved about the group’s talent. She echoed her fellow judges, telling Hakuna Matata Acrobatics “you guys deserve to be here.”
“You don’t need any help from anyone,” she said before pushing her Live Show Golden Buzzer — the first of the series.
Hugging and applauding with the crowd, the group showed how happy they were and thanked God for the chance.
Now that they’ve advanced directly to the final, Hakuna Matata Acrobatics will face off against nine other acts, including the three additional Live Show Golden Buzzers who will be awarded later in the quarterfinals.
On August 6, it was revealed that AGT would be redefining the live show format with the debut of the Live Show Golden Buzzer.
During the four weeks of the quarterfinals, each of the four judges will have the chance to send acts directly to the finals with a Live Show buzzer. This is a first for the series.
Twelve acts will advance to the semifinals following the conclusion of the quarterfinals, where they will contend for the top six slots determined by fan voting. Subsequently, on Tuesday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 24, those six artists will participate in the two-night finale alongside the four Live Show Golden Buzzers.
NBC broadcasts America’s Got Talent every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
