One of Christie’s slimmer mysteries, Hallowe’en Party (1969), has been reimagined by Branagh and screenwriter Michael Green, setting the narrative in 1947 Venice. Additionally, they have enthusiastically embraced the Halloween theme, pushing the cozy detective narrative conventions toward a full-fledged haunted-house thriller.
In an attempt to make touch with the ghost of the opera singer’s daughter, who passed away in the palazzo a year prior under suspicious circumstances, Mrs. Reynolds conducts a séance. Soon there will be another death: one of the partygoers is found dead, and although though Poirot is no longer formally retired, he chooses to take on the investigation.
